Top Hat developed from a simple two chord loop. G and Em. Throw on some fancy extensions, voice them right and proper, and you got jazz baby! This would become the chorus section and solo section of the song. Felix had sent over a demo of a chord progression previous to this, and I transposed this progression to the key of G to be used as the verse section of Top Hat. The song was fleshed out with the addition of an intro, pre chorus, solo section, and outro. From a guitar perspective, the entire song was written very much in the style of Casiopea, with a huge focus on a catchy melody. If it subconsciously gets stuck in your head, it’s a damn good melody! And after this had happened to myself on various occasions, I knew this song was going to be very memorable. - Jordan
