Mauve was the second song in the writing process. It’s the simplest, but grooviest song we have. We nearly always write out our songs when creating them, but Mauve is the exception. The main theme was a chord progression we created during a jam session, and I find that this specific progression has a very smooth “purple” feel to it, hence the name. Jordan wrote a bluesy section to tie the song together until the bridge. At one point, Jordan mentioned he was playing quintuplets during the bridge section. I Suggested the drums should play in 3/4 , the bass in 4/4, and have the guitar play the 5 note pattern. The result was interesting, and so we kept it.
