This is our longest song, coming in above 10 minutes! 8-Bit started off as two seperate songs. It started with a bass line demo Felix sent over to the group, entitled “8 Bit Demo.” I wrote funk guitar parts over this progression and added a distinctive verse melody. Kyle was showing us a rhythm at the time unique to Cameroon, Africa, known as the Bikutsi. This would later transform into the polyrhythmic double bass section in the bridge where the guitar/bass play groupings of five 16th notes (2+3) over a 4/4 drum groove. I wrote brass parts, and contacted my friend, fellow musician, and local saxophonist Angelo Leo (who we are eternally grateful to have on this record) to record saxophone parts for many of the sections in the song. Add in the tasty guitar/bass solo trade off section, and the insane three minute drum solo, and this song has proven to be one of my favourites on the record. It was astonishing for me to watch this song develop into an absolute progressive funk masterpiece (if I may say so!). - Jordan
