Formed in Ottawa, Ontario, in 2019, Finely Tuned Elephant is a Canadian jazz-rock fusion trio that has been making waves for its distinctive sound, blending influences from global music, contemporary jazz, and progressive rock. Renowned for their dynamic and thrilling sonic experiences, the trio, consisting of Jordan Robinson (guitars), Cyrus Robertson Orkish (bass), and Kyle Iveglia (drums), is celebrated for its technical prowess, catchy compositions, and electrifying live performances.
The genesis of Finely Tuned Elephant can be traced back to the release of Jordan's inaugural solo progressive rock album, sharing the same namesake, “Finely Tuned Elephant”, in 2019. Following the album's release, Jordan and Kyle crossed musical paths, initiating weekly rehearsals in Jordan's home studio. The immediate musical chemistry between the two prompted the official formation of the band, solidified with the addition of bassist Félix Labrosse for the debut edition of Finely Tuned Elephant. In January 2020, the trio unveiled their first collaborative single, "Mauve," setting the stage for their musical journey.
Navigating the challenges of a tumultuous year marked by COVID-19 lockdowns, Finely Tuned Elephant persisted in their creative endeavours, culminating in the self-produced debut album, "Perfect Coincidence," released to critical acclaim in October 2020 within the Ottawa music community.
Undeterred by the ongoing lockdowns in Ontario, the trio plunged into the creation of their second album throughout the first half of 2021. As the project unfolded, Finely Tuned Elephant underwent a transformative lineup change, with the introduction of bassist Cyrus Robertson Orkish.
"The Fast Life," their second self-produced album, was released on March 4th, 2022, creating huge momentum for the trio. The year unfolded with a celebratory tour, featuring over 25 performances, including a notable East Coast tour. The dawn of 2023 witnessed a dynamic start, with packed shows alongside acclaimed bands and mini tours in Montreal and Toronto.
As the trio continues to captivate audiences with their compelling sound, they are diligently crafting their third album, already showcasing new compositions during performances in Ontario and Quebec. Finely Tuned Elephant is not just a musical act; it's an evolving narrative of artistic exploration and collaboration, inviting audiences into their ever-evolving sonic journey.
